Microsoft announced today that Gears of War 2 sold over 2 million copies worldwide this past weekend. More than 20,000 retail locations spread across 20 countries opened shop at 12:01 AM last Friday, November 7 to celebrate the launch of Gears 2. More than 1.5 million gamers logged on to Xbox Live over the weekend, collecting over 19 million Achievements while playing in excess of 15 million hours. Surprise, surprise, people love their Gears.
“We were so excited to launch Gears of War 2 on the same day all around the world, something virtually unheard of in the games business,” said Cliff Bleszinski, the design director for Epic Games and mastermind behind Gears of War. “We wanted our fans, no matter where they live, to have a shared experience on day one, and that’s exactly what’s happened.” More than 1.5 million gamers logged on to Xbox Live over the weekend, collecting over 19 million Achievements while playing in excess of 15 million hours.
